MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE IRA TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES APRIL 5, 2021

The Ira Township Board of Trustees met in the board room of the Ira Township Hall on April 5, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was called to order with a moment of silence followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL:

Board members present: James Endres, Jr., Thomas Lauer, James Jacob and Jean Corbat Absent: Thomas Eder.

T. Lauer moved to approve the minutes of the 3/1/2021 regular meeting as amended, and the 3/17/2021 special meeting, supported by J. Jacob.

Letter of Interest RE: Township Owned Vacant Lot on Dixie Highway (74-23-120-0012-000)

J. Endres Jr., moved to deny the request to sell the vacant lot on Dixie Highway, supported by J. Jacob. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.

NEW BUSINESS:

St. Clair County Road Commission Agreement RE Swath Mowing

J. Jacob moved to approve the Agreement with the St. Clair County Road Commission for swath mowing on all local roads and authorize the Supervisor to sign the Agreement on behalf of the Township, supported by T. Lauer. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.


St. Clair County Road Commission Agreement RE Shoulder Patch

T. Lauer moved to approve the Agreement with the St. Clair County Road Commission for shoulder patch on local hard surface roads and authorize the Supervisor to sign the Agreement on behalf of the Township, supported by J. Jacob. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.


St. Clair County Road Commission Agreement RE Rubber Crack Repairs

J. Jacob moved to approve the Agreement with the St. Clair County Road Commission for rubber crack repairs on Meldrum Road between Short Cut Road and M-29 and authorize the Supervisor to sign the Agreement on behalf of the Township, supported by T. Lauer. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.


Parks & Recreation Program Requests RE: Pow Wow in the Park Events

T. Lauer moved to accept the recommendation of the Parks & Recreation Director and approve the Pow Wow in the Park events to be held on the 3rd Saturday of the month from May through October 2021, supported by J. Endres Jr. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.


Parks & Recreation Program Requests RE: Music in the Park Events

J. Corbat moved to accept the recommendation of the Parks & Recreation Director and approve the six (6) Music in the Park events and authorize use of the Fire Hall as an alternate rain location, supported by J. Jacob. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.


Clay Police – Monthly Additional Charges

T. Lauer moved to approve the additional monthly charge of $1,444.00 from the Clay Township Police Department, for additional services rendered during the month of March 2021, supported by J. Jacob. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.

Firefighters Annual Physicals

J. Jacob moved to approve the Fire Chief’s recommendation and approve the contract with Bio-Care Inc., in the amount of $9,260.00, to complete on-site annual physicals for 24 firefighters, supported by J. Endres Jr.

Fire Truck Request

J. Jacob moved to approve the Fire Chief’s recommendation and authorize use of a fire truck at the Ira Little League Opening Day events to be held on April 24, 2021, supported by J. Endres Jr. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.


Fire Department Sergeant 2 Position Appointment

J. Endres Jr. moved to approve the Fire Chief’s recommendation and appoint Michael Sommers to the Sergeant 2 Position effective April 5, 2021, supported by J. Corbat. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.


St. Clair County Council on Aging

T. Lauer moved to appropriate $1,500.00 to the St. Clair County Council on Aging to help defray the costs of serving the senior citizens of Ira, supported by J. Jacob. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.


DPS Summer Help

T. Lauer moved to approve the request of the DPS Supervisor and authorize summer help from now through November 2021, for up to 29 ½ hours per week at $13.00 per hour, supported J. Corbat. All voting yes. Opposing: None MOTION CARRIED.


Township Master Plan and Parks & Recreation Master Plan and Fence Ordinance

J. Endres Jr. moved to approve obtaining a quote on cost estimates to update the Township’s Master Plan and the Parks & Recreation Master Plan and review fence provisions in the ordinances, supported by J. Corbat.
