Library History

The Ira Township Library celebrated its grand opening on April 15, 1965.  
The storefront library was originally located on M-29 at the site of the former Kandler's Market. 
In 1981, the library moved into the old township hall at Meldrum and Short Cut Roads.
An expansion was dedicated
on December12, 1991

We are more than books!

Many of you may not have time to read. The Ira Township Library has theatrical and educational video, music CDs, books-on-tape and DVD, & free internet access.
Our staff is waiting to help - just ask!

Requests From Home

If you have internet access and an Ira Township Library card, you can request any circulating item in the St. Clair County Library system from home.

Items will be delivered to the Ira branch and the staff will phone you to pick it up.

I'm a Bookworm - Create a Bookworm! (registration required)

  • Month of April, final party April 30th @ 2 p.m. (Preschool - 5th grade)
    Receive a bookworm body part by rating your book after every 30 minutes of reading. Finish 3 hours to receive a gift at the party!

Facebook Spring Reading Challenge

  • March - May. Keep track of how many books you read from the Facebook Challenge List (available at the library). The winner will be selected from those with the most books read. Lists must be turned in by June 1st.

For ages 17 and up. Tuesdays at 2 p.m.

  • Computer Basics - March 21st, April 18th, and May 16th @ 6:30 p.m
    • For the new or beginning computer user.
    • Learn about the computers parts & pieces, review the mouse and keyboard, and the structure of the desktop.
    • Registration required

  • Word Processing 1: March 24th @ 6 p.m. & April 22nd @ 2 p.m.
    • Review basic terminology, keyboard and mouse skills, desktop and program window.
    • Create a document and create basic formatting on text.
    • Learn how to open and save a document.

  • Ebay 1: Begin - March 17th & May 12th @ 6 p.m.
    • Set up an accounty, search, bid, and buy on this popular website!
    • Must have email address, St. Clair County Library card and some internet proficiency.

  • Ebay 2: Sell - March 31st & May 19th @ 6 p.m.
    • Learn to sell your items!
    • Please have an Ebay account prior to class.

  • Worldwide Web 1: Internet & Web Browsing - March 28th, April 25th, & May 23rd @ 6:30 p.m.
    • Learn about the internet and selecting an internet service provider.
    • Learn about the web browser program and how to navigate to specific websites, use links and enter information in a website form.

  • Website Creation - April 21st & May 2nd @ 6 p.m.
