Dear Conservation Enthusiasts,
This fall we are offering the Michigan State University Extension’s Conservation Stewards Program (CSP) locally once again through a partnership between St. Clair County Parks and Pine River Nature Center. The CSP course teaches adult learners hands-on conservation skills and provides connection to local natural resources experts and partners. We hope you’ll consider taking the course yourself and help spread the word. The registration has been extended to August 24 and partial scholarships are available. For more information and to register, visit www.events.anr.msu.edu/micsp2025.
The CSP program offers multiple weeks of instruction delivered between September and November 2025, including weekly online course content, in-person evening lectures, field instruction, and more. The classes are held in natural areas and restoration projects all over St. Clair County with a different local expert instructor each week. CSP participants span a wide range of backgrounds and ages, from high school to college-age on up to working adults and seniors, and no prior knowledge is needed. We offer the program locally approximately every other year in St. Clair County. CSP alumni have gained the knowledge and confidence to join environmental non-profit boards, lead their own ecological restoration projects, and deliver youth conservation and nature education programs. CSP volunteers serve hundreds of hours each year in our community and expand and enhance the preservation and restoration of our natural resources. We hope you’ll join their ranks! WINS-Warning Information Notification System. The St. Clair County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, in conjunction with county and local agencies, and selected private entities, has launched a new mass notification service that allows us to alert you. WINS is a notification system that will allow Public Authorities to notify you in the case of an emergency situation such as Tornado, Sever Weather, Evacuations or other emergency situations that effect life and safety. In addition to Emergency Notices you can “opt-in” to receive information on non-emergency situations from a variety of entities, including Ira Township and many other St. Clair County municipalities, law enforcement, fire departments, health departments, schools, and select private/non-profit entities with a need to quickly disseminate information to the public. Because the information will be targeted to your specific area, it is recommended that you sign up for every location that is important to you. Examples of locations could be: Home, Work, Schools, Family Members Homes, etc. To sign up go to www.bereadystclaircounty.org
St. Clair County Animal Control Changes Dog Licensing. Effective January 1, 2019 sale of St. Clair County dog licenses will be through the county. The county will sell the licenses online, at their office and at the county treasurer's office. Also new this year, the licenses will expire at the time of the rabies vaccination expiration rather than having all licenses in the county expire on the same day. For more information, contact Director Amy Warner or staff at 810.984.3155 or check their Website St. Clair County Animal Control.
