Water Works Park
Ira Township Waterworks Park is located at 8375 Waterworks Drive.
Historically the site of the original water tower.
In 1927, the Waterworks Park property was donated to the township by the Vernier and Cicotte families for a water works system for the township. With great insight, there was also a condition that if the property was not used for the water works system, it was to be used as a public park. The Ira Township Water Department was also established in 1927 with the building of a water tower and pump house at the location on Water Works Drive. From 1927 to 1996 that site serviced the Ira Township water district. In 1996, when the township built a new water plant and tower on Meldrum Road, the property could now be used for a public park. Since 1996, the township has worked to remediate the property with various improvements throughout the years. The park has also benefited from Eagle Scout projects: Gazebo, Benches, Flag Pole and Safety Kiosks, completed on the site. Today, Waterworks Park is a testament to the people of Ira Township.
Ira Township Waterworks Park has recently added Accessible Kayak Launch, Parking and Path, made possible with Grants from Ralph Wilson Legacy Foundation, Community Foundation of St Clair County Family Fund and St Clair County EDA.
